Endoscopy Junior Editors Board
Once again, Endoscopy is looking for talented and ambitious young gastrointestinal endoscopists to join our Junior Editors Board and participate in the trainee program for aspiring scientific journal editors. Appointments are for two years and each Junior Editor is mentored by an experienced Co-Editor throughout this period. Under his/her wing, Junior Editors will learn about the skills required to review manuscripts and to be part of a core Editorial Team. Through this mentorship, program participants can also expect to improve their scientific reading and writing skills. Junior Editors initially learn about all the steps of the review process, from submission to acceptance, including:
- how to succinctly assess the value and the limitations of a paper
- how to write clear, critical but helpful reviews that benefit the authors and their research and communicate effectively with Editors
- the criteria for selecting papers for review
- how to interpret and assess reviewer recommendations
Applicants need to be aware that this position entails overseeing the review process of about 12 manuscripts or E-Video submissions per year as well as participating in regular meetings and tutorials (online). Meetings are held in bi-monthly intervals and attendance is required.
Applicants should be:
- specializing in gastrointestinal endoscopy (any aspect)
- interested in the publishing and editorial processes behind Endoscopy
- born on or after 1 January 1988
- fluent in English, especially in writing
- experienced in scientific writing
- reliable, able to quickly respond to emails and tasks
- active on social media
Applications should comprise:
- a letter of motivation (max. 1 page)
- a short video (max. 2 mins) about you, your work, and why you want to participate in this program
- your CV
- a written endorsement from your supervisor or Chief of Department/Division, expressing their support for this position, including protected time to participate in the bi-monthly meetings
- a written reference or a person to contact for a reference
Before applying, applicants should consider whether they will be able to commit the necessary amount of time to this position and also address this point with their Chief of Department/Division.
